Megan’s strategy to develop from the basic to the complex, from the quick to the time consuming and from the immediate revenue generating projects to the longer term revenue generating projects, allows for orderly, well thought-out growth of the firm.
Animal vaccines – quick to develop
Animal and poultry vaccines provide an opportunity for rapid vaccine licensing (3-5 years). These products are regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Megan technology has achieved one large animal vaccine USDA license to date: a Salmonella choleraesuis vaccine called ARGUSTM SC for swine. It prevents a serious systemic infection in young pigs. This vaccine achieved USDA license through a collaboration with the Bayer Corporation and was commercialized in March of 1998. The vaccine is applied to pigs greater than 3 weeks of age via the drinking water.
Used as an aid in the prevention of pneumonia, diarrhea, septicemia and mortality caused by Salmonella choleraesuis.
Avirulent-live Salmonella choleraesuis.
Patented gene-deleted bacterial vaccine
Deletions stable after in vitro or in vivo backpassage
Single dose
Oral administration saves labor cost
1 mL per pig
Effectively controls pneumonia, septicemia and mortality caused by Salmonella choleraesuis.
BluShadowTM – Blue diluent for easy observation of vaccine through partitioner
Recommended for piglets 3-4 weeks old
Mass Vaccination through drinking water
In addition to vaccines for food safety, we are developing vaccines for poultry pathogens. These vaccines prevent diseases which inhibit economic performance of chickens. An example is a vaccine to prevent disease caused by E.coli, an organism which causes both respiratory infection and a condition called cellulitis in young growing chickens. The development of this vaccine is partially funded by a grant from the USDA. This vaccine consists of an attenuated Salmonella strain carrying gene sequences from E.coli.
Megan has other large animal vaccines under development but they are subject to confidentiality agreements with sponsors.
